Blog post 13

How does the number of male and female fruit flies affect the number of flies in three weeks?

If I put one female and two males in the vial then there will be 23 adults on day 14 and 143 adults at the end of 3 weeks because on day 14 all the eggs hatch to adults.

The number fruit flies affect how many there will be in three weeks. I learned the way to tell a male from a female is to check the brissle and if its really black its a male. I also they spend 6 days as a egg and becomes  and adult in 14 days. Also that one fruit fly can lay 20 eggs. Thats what I learned from this experiment.

Step 1:Pick a combination for our flies which was female, male, male
Step 2: use fly nap to put them to sleep
Step 3:put food into vial for flies to eat
Step 4:put combination on vial for flys and seperate them
step 5:put the flies in and put a stopper in it
Step 6:make weekly observations of the vial and two other groups vial
Step:use fly nap to make them fall asleep and count them

My data did not support my hypothesis because there was not 143 adults at the end of the experiment it may have been because I overestimated how many babies would be produced or how many adults would hatch.

Therefore I my hypothesis wrong and there was only 108 adult flies on day 14 and not 143 like I predicted.

Lesson 11: Week in Science No Impact Man

In No impact man  a man try's  to live without TV, computers, toliet paper and other necessitys for a year. Also he only purchased food from farmers and not take the train or bus to travel and could only eat fruits and vegetables. Because they couldn't use the trains they used walking and scooters and other types of transportain. Also he had all of his food stored in a box instead of a refrigerator and used the local faemers market for food.

By not using cars or trains or buses he saves the air from the gases that get released into it the atmosphere from car fuel. Also from not eat meat or at public resturants he saves the thousands of animals that get killed everyday. From not using TV's or computers he saved tons of elecrity he also did this from using different type of light bulbs. Also he didn't use toliet paper which saved which saved a lot of trees.

I was very suprised to see how he would survive without a lot of stuff we abbuse today like TV computers, food and toliet paper. I personally wouldn't be able to live without toliet paper so I was very suprised he did it for a year. Also I thought it would be kinda hard to give up meat and only eat vegetarian. Most of all I was disterebed how they let worms eat all of their trash I was thinking what does that do for the enviroment. The thing I think it would be easyest to live without is a TV because you can always find something else to do.

Lesson 10: Fruit Flies DYO

This week in science we got new spiders to put in new spiders in our container and put some flightless fruit flies for it to eat. We also split into groups and started on DYO's for the fruit flie investigation/ problem. We also set up files and graphs to help show the fruit flie problem also we recorded data on a loose leaf. We also created a hypothesis for the fruit flie problem with the if....then.....and because format. We also made bar graphs to caculate the number of A's students get in a class every month and first made a table to make for the graph.

I learned that centipedes can kill spiders if left in the container can kill everything in it like a spider or beetle. I also learned that when two daddy long leg spiders are in a enviroment they either kill each other or the biggest one each the food while the other dies of hunger. I also learned to eat its prey the spider wraps its web around it  and begins to sucks its blood. Also that centipedes kill their prey the same way but they wrap themselfs around their prey and squeezes them and drink their fluids.

Post # 9 - This week in science (fruit flies part 2)

This week in science  got our spiders and we did the chart with the flies where if there were three flies in a container how many would there be in three weeks?. we got flies on our container and solved  the hypothesis. we drew our answer on a big piece of loose leaf and listed facts of how the answer is what it is.  We did everything in in groups and we picked two males and one female and put them in a vial and observed them.

This week in science I learned that one fruit flie  has 20 babies a day and after about day 16 those babies begin to hatch and make more babies. I also learned as the babies hatch the number of adults will increses by 20. Also I learned the different results you get depending on the number of males and females in the container. I also learned that from far away its hard to tell if a fruit flie is a guy or girl because you can't really see their brissle

Lesson 7: This Week in Science Ecosystems

This week in science we did test corrections on the exam we took and explained why they were wrong and how it relates to our spider habitat. We also made designs on how our spider habitats would be designed after we got our materials. Also went on a field trip to a garden to collect supplies for our spider habitat mostly dirt and rocks. After that then we made maps about our habitat and the different things that live inside it and we also researched different animals in our habitat.

I learned that a slug is another snail for a snail and that a snail and a slug are in the same family also that slugs are very small. I also learned that centipedes has posion sacks that sacks that they use to kill their prey and that centipedes suck up the blood of their prey. I have also learned farmers hate slugs because they eat their vegtables. I also learned after a while our tank started getting wet around the side and that the worms refuse to reveal themselfs.

Post 4: This Week in Science (Energy Pyramid)

This week in science created a energy pyramid about everyone one of animals since mine was the black panther  I remembered what it eats then I found out what that eats and so on. Then we drawed the energy pyramid so show what eats what. Right next to it we drawed a food chain to make it more simple about what eats what. We also saw davids example with a penguin and a few other  animals then we read the definition of what a food pyramid is. We also did a work sheet that asked what would we do if we stranded on a island with a cow and wheat.

This week in science I learned that a energy pyramid is a diagram that shows the amount of energy in each organism. We also learned about how a consumer is an organism that eats another organism for energy and how a producer is a organism that makes its own food for energy. We learned that there are Herbiroves a consumer that only eats a producer, a carnivore a consumer who only eats other consumer and a food chains which shows the transfer of energy from one organism to another. We learned that if your stranded on a island with a cow and wheat you eat the cow first then eat the wheat.

Post 3: This Week in Science (Fantasy Habitat)

This week in science we picked animals to make fantasy habitats first we watched a video of lions and buffalos and some alligators fight for one meal for reasons im not sure why I picked the black panther because I thought they would be easy to draw I was wrong. I searched on different websites to see where they live and what they live with. Then I tried to draw it by finding a picture on google and drawing it I tried to pick a  picture that was easy but there was none.

In Science I learned a lot about black panthers like what they eat where they live and what family there from which is the cat family. I learned that black panthers eat fish, deer and rabbits sometimes I also learned they live in the rain forest. I also learned that biotic things are living and aboitic is non living so things like light and fire is aboitic and animals and people are biotic. Therefore this is what I did and learned in science.
